Designed to encompass 15,000 square meters of program, Murdoch’s new academic building will house the university’s School of Business and Governance. The project is inspired by the modernist architecture of the existing campus by designed Gus Ferguson, incorporating a gable roof alongside contemporary construction systems. “The existing campus has a coherent architectural character of linear masonry buildings framing native landscape courtyards. These courtyards are typically bordered by long colonnades that form the primary circulation network of the campus and are protected by generous gable roof forms.”

Five existing buildings will be demolished to make way for the new construction. The academic project is made as a “creative warehouse” that features flexible partitions, and a new arrival court will act as the main entrance to the campus in the south. No timeline for completion has been announced.

The Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) is pleased to announce that Concordia International School Hanoi of LCMS Holdings Viet Nam has been awarded LOTUS Non-Residential V2.0 (LOTUS NR V2.0) Full Certification at Gold Level on 15th August 2019.

Located in Van Tri Golf Compound, Tho Da, Kim No, Dong Anh, Hanoi, the project is a high school, part of Concordia International School, which has a GFA of 8,090 m2.

• 32.5% of energy use reduction
• 52.6% reduction of water use through fixtures
• 51% of OTTV reduction as compared to QCVN 09:2013/BXD’s requirement
• 100% of paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, floorings with low-VOC content.

• 100% of occupied areas with fresh air supply

The private villa, located in Hung Phu Residential Area, Cai Rang District, Can Tho Province, is aiming for LOTUS Platinum Certification for Housing (LOTUS Homes).

Most of the villa space is naturally lit with vertical sunshade system or green space to limit sunlight to the inside, whereby reducing energy consumption for cooling. Especially, green area around the villa is also focused to help reduce the heat island effect and control stormwater runoff.

On the other hand, the villa will also use a lot of modern equipment such as:

• Low-E glass system (low emissivity) which is imported from Germany.
• Solar panel system providing most of the energy used.
• Fresh air supply system combined with natural ventilation to ensure the health of occupants.
• Home appliances with 4-5 star energy label.

The project is being consulted by GreenViet.

LOTUS is a set of voluntary market-based green building rating systems developed by the VGBC through long-term research, with the expert advice of specialists giving particular consideration to Vietnam’s economic and natural characteristic and existing Vietnamese standards and policy.

Design practice Conrad Gargett have created a proposal for a sculptural mixed-use complex in the Brisbane suburbs of Queensland, Australia. Sited in Lutwyche, the project aims to become an integrated development built to accommodate an ageing population in Queensland. Dubbed Lamington Markets, the design overlays public amenities and commercial spaces with local recreation space.

As Conrad Gargett states, the development idea began as a typical transit-oriented mixed-use development, incorporating market retail, SoHo housing, cinemas, commercial spaces, and residential apartment mix. The development caught the attention of retirement living operators, and transformed to address a gap in accommodation options for seniors in the local region. The apartments are sized and planned to universal design requirements, ensuring circulation spaces and accessibility for the mobility-challenged; they can also be easily retrofitted with home support fixtures to allow ageing-in-place. The Lamington Markets building includes two residential towers atop the commercial complex below.

A development application for Lamington Markets has been submitted with Brisbane City Council.
